The Writing Center Extends Their Hours!

Having trouble finish up those essays, and final papers? If your answer is yes, then come visit the the Writing Center during their extended hours.

The Writing Center is in the Campus Center, in the Library, Room L-300. The Writing Center will now be open from 12:00 pm until 9:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, and 10:00 am until 7:00 pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, the Writing Center will be open during Finals Week until Thursday December 18th. For more information, please call The Writing Center at (516) 876-3093.

Get Ready For the 'Study Lounge'!

On Monday, December 15th, in the Student  Union, SGA and Student Affairs presents "Finals Study Lounge." The event will be held in the Student Union, Multipurpose Rooms A & B from 9 pm until 2 am.

In addition to studying, students will also receive massages by "Massages On The Go", and enjoy a special midnight breakfast. Faculty will be available for tutoring and a paper review. For more information please call Student Activites (516) 876-3067.

Drive Down 'Awareness Avenue' With Dr. Deb, on OWWR!

Awareness Avenue featured political analyst Allen Grove, as he gave his insight to the Presidential election, it's impact on voters, and the Bradley Effect. Grove's resume in politics is extensive, including his work in Washington, D.C., and on Senate campaign's.

Heather Simonson, sexuality educator, counselor, and consultant, returned to Awareness Avenue to discuss relationships in depth. Simonson talked about different aspects of relationships, including trust factors, and knowing when the time right.

Shelly Mendoza, of the SUNY College at Old Westbury's Women Center, joined Dr. Deb to discuss rape. In most cases of rape, women are the victims, and are usually afraid to report the incidents.  Mendoza shared information about different types of rape, as well as tips on how some one can help out another person that was a victim of rape.

Could you imagine an innocent child being verbally and physically abused by their parents? It is hard to visualize and understand, but it still happens. Dr. Deb Kaplan, was joined by Anthony Zenkas, Director of Education for the Coalition Against Child Abuse & Neglect, and discussed verbal, and physical child abuse, and the Amber Alert system. Stress, depression, anger, and anxiety are all issues people deal with every day. On Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008, on Awareness Avenue, Dr. Deb Kaplan and her engineer, OWWR's T.C. Johnson, learned a new system that helps cope with those disorders and more. Emiliya Zhivotovskaya, an expert on Applied Positive Psychology, provided a new system that helps people turn negativity into positivity. She also discussed how "Recession does not necessarily mean Depression." SUNY College at Old Westbury Is Home, 'For Your Entertainment'!

On Thursday, December 11th, 7:30 PM, The Poetry Club, Aspiring Leaders, and Zeta Phi Beta present "For Your Entertainment", at the Campus Center, in the Recital Hall. There will be performances by Carl 'Sweetwater' Samuels, The Poets, Reynold Martin, Shekinah Chorale, Steptunes, Greek Step, and many more.

In addition, there will also be a 'High School Swag' segment, where you can win contests such as 'Flyest' and 'Cutest'. Giveaways, include CD's, DVD's and Den Points. OWWR will be on hand for t-shirt, poster, and music giveaways.

President Elect Barack Obama Makes History, and ‘Yes, You Can’ Take A Trip to Washington to Celebrate!

Thanks to a generous subsidy from the Student Government Association, transportation to the Inauguration of President Elect, Barack Obama, will be offered for a fee of $30.00. The trip will take place on Monday, January 19th, 2009. This trip does not guarantee tickets for the actual inauguration but you will have a view of the swearing-in of President Elect Barack Obama from screens set around the Washington Mall.

Students that are registered must attend a mandatory pre-event meeting at Campus Center, in the Recital Hall to review travel plans, sign liability waivers, and discuss safety precautions.

On Friday, December 5th, at 9 am, the Finance Society, in association with SGA, and the Hair Club invite you to take a trip. A shuttle bus will be leaving the SUNY College at Old Westbury, outside the Campus Center at 9 am.
