Cirque Du Soleil was formed in 1982 by a small group of street performers in Quebec. It went on to become one of the most famous performing arts organizations in the world. Cirque Du Soleil has received several recognitions, including a Humanitarian award , Emmy, Entrepreneur of the Year award, Best Production and Best Choreography award, and one silver world metal.

At its central international headquarters, Cirque Du Soleil has its own creation studio, costume workshop, acrobatics training center, props workshop, and health center. Currently, Cirque has seven shows, performing simultaneously all over the world. No two shows are alike. Each has a different theme. Alegria, Quidam, La Nouba and Drallion, are titles of both new and older shows once performed by the artists of Cirque.

Cirque Du Soleil is the only circus that operates without animals. Its popularity has gained the organization such positive reviews that some venues request permanent year-round shows. Las Vegas currently hosts five Cirque Du Soleil shows.

For members who find it dificult to adjust to the demands of working in a traveling circus, Cirque offers therapy and a number of other benefits to help them cope.
The organization provides each artist with competitive pay. For traveling shows each performer is given tour allowance, meals, two weeks vacations during down time, schooling for children of the performers, and twelve paid sick days.
