On March 29th, Dean Edwards updated our college community about our student government via email. In his email Dean Edwards wrote:
“President Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III, has appointed members to the Presidential Committee to Assist the Student Government Association. Made up of students, faculty and staff, the short term goals of the committee are to assist in facilitating upcoming elections and to assist in the administering of funds in the hopes that programming, events and activities can continue as smoothly as possible during this unique transition period in which we find ourselves. The long term goal of the committee is to assist in the restoration of SGA to the organization that has long and ably served in the best interest of its constituency -- our student body. We count on all of our OW family for continued support and patience as we move united toward these goals.”
After their meeting on March 26, the Presidential Committee submitted a resolution to the Student Senate which stated:
“Whereas the current e-board vacancies make the creation of an election committee impossible according to the Student Government Association Constitution, the Presidential Committee to Assist the Student Government Association will form an emergency election committee with full authority to oversee the spring 2007 Student Government elections. The election will be held on or about the Seventh of May.”
This resolution was unanimously passed in an emergency unofficial Senate meeting that was held on March 28th.
Due to this vote, the committee is now overseeing the 2007 S.G.A. elections. Election will be on May 7th and 8th from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.
