"You Want Me To Start World War III?"
Charles Cooper was a marine. He transfered into the Naval Academy in 1946, and became to be one of the highest ranking marines. In 1965, he was an aide to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and had an assignment to draw a map to be used in a speech from President Johnson. Later he was called into the oval office where he stood in a line of other men in front of a heated argument with the President and chairman.
"At that moment, Johnson exploded. I almost dropped the map. He just started screaming these obscenities, They were just filthy. It was something like: "You goddamn fucking assholes. You're trying to get me to start World War III with your idiotic bullshit -- your 'military wisdom'." " He insulted each of them individually. "You dumb shit. Do you expect me to believe in that kind of crap?" I've got the weight of the Free World on my shoulders and you want me to start World War III?"
That kinda surprised me to learn that President Johnson either was a real jerk or an okay guy with a bad temper under pressure. I wasn't sure exactly which one but I hoped he wasn't always like that and degrading people all thet time. I mean the President is someone many people look up to and lets face it, he runs our country so I would hope he was just stressing under pressure with the Vietnam War inside of being a real dirtbag like he sounds in this article. It was as if he was acting like a drill sargent. Johnson thought these men were crazy and stupid. He thought America as we know it was fine, peaceful and no where and he thought it was preposterous for people to be telling him that we should fight in Vietnam. There seemed to be a lot of drama in politics.
