Social media is making its name known during the NHL playoffs. Whether its on Twitter with fans or teams live tweeting the games, or Snapchat using its filters to let fans share their playoff experiences with other fans, Social media has found its calling to break out this year and its through the playoffs.
Instagram has been the biggest hit this post-season with numerous accounts posting graphics informing fans of what occurred during the games throughout the league. For example “Sportscenter” which is an affiliate with ESPN has been posting numerous graphics of the team that wins the matchup that night with the score and the series lead.
The NHL’s personal Instagram has been doing its fair share of posting this post-season with posts including the winning teams celebrating or fan pictures, but they seem to be shying away from posting content updating the fans of what the score was besides using clever innuendos.
The Twitter accounts for each team involved in the playoffs have been doing what they do best and that is live tweet. Live tweeting has been huge for NHL teams during games because it is a way for fans to obtain key information that they will not see on the big screen. The New York Rangers have been using GIFs with their live tweeting this has been used by several teams to give the tweets some humor or life so fans aren’t just seeing words.

The NHL’s account is the page where fans can access the most information during the playoffs without having to constantly search other teams profiles for news. For Example the NHL uses tweets such as video highlights, fan pictures, and score updates to keep fans up to date with news around the league.
Snapchat has always used filters throughout the season but now with the playoffs here teams jump into creating new filters expressing the NHL playoffs. The NHL still continues to have their own story page during the game where fans attending can post in it to share with other fans. Teams also give fans behind the scenes playoff access with their team Snapchat pages that fans can follow.
The NHL playoffs have been increasing the population of social media users every year as well as creating bigger opportunities for fans that are trying to keep up to date with the latest information regarding the playoffs.
