On February 29, 2016, the Oscars aired, but it seemed like no one was as excited as Leonardo DiCaprio at the Oscars this year. According to US Weekly Esther Lee and Rachel Mcrady "The 2016 Oscar nominees caused major drama after it was revealed in January that for the second year in a row, every single acting nominee was white".
According to US Weekly "The outrage over the exclusion of people of color caused the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite," Jada Pinkett Smith went on twitter and wrote this expressing how she felt about the Oscars.
At the Oscars...people of color are always welcomed to give out awards...even entertain, (pt. 1)

This was only 1 of 3 tweets she put up, she then put up this video explain in depth what she thinks about the Oscars.

Acording to Manohla Dargis, Wesley Morris and A.O.Scott of the New York Times" This year’s nominations led Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith to announce on Martin Luther King’s Birthday that they would not be attending the ceremony" Jada was the first to tweet that she was boycotting the oscars, other celebrities didnt follow through with boycotting the oscars but celebrities such as Lupita Nyong'o and George Clooney also many others have commented on what they beleive to be true.
Not only did I Research on what Celebrities had to say about the Oscars , but the audience also. In which lead people to ask this question.

The Academy Award has been said to favor white actors and actresses. According to Mark Judge of CNS News last year #Oscarssowhite was trending on twitter "It was a form of protest about what was perceived as the lack of racial diversity in the Academy Awards". So are there changes being made ? Well according to Patrick Ryan of USA Today the Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs has said that she "made strides toward more inclusion in its voting body since controversy".

In conclusion, the ony answer is your own opinion becuase we will not know if inequality is the main factor in people of color winning a Oscar . But if it is lets hope that 2017 things will change.
