The National Football League has teamed up with Instagram to help promote its brand as well as inform fans with latest news in the league. Instagram gives fans news without having to read an article or even being sent to another webpage. Instagram also gives fans access to generating their own opinions on favorite teams or even posting news for their followers.
Fans are all over Instagram whether they’re following their favorite teams or even posting about them. There are several ways that a fan can share some news about the NFL through the social media app. One way where a fan can use the social media app to help promote a team is through a geo-tag. A geo-tag is a way to tag a location on a photo to let your followers know where you are when the photo was taken. Also a very key feature about geo-tagging is when you click on the geo-tag you will find other pictures that were used with the same geo-tag.
Other Fan based pages on Instagram share strictly NFL news to its fans. For example a fan ran page called “all_nfl_” posts photos of each acquisition or news that happens in the NFL. This page only has over thirty six thousand followers but it is only because the NFL isn’t promoting the page. This page is great when trying to find out about the latest roster moves because one doesn’t need to open a new app and go on NFL.com, Instagram gives fans the ability to just go to a page to find out news in the app.
The NFL has its own Instagram page as well as each team has its own individual page. The NFL’s Instagram is constantly updated throughout the day having several of posts regarding trades, rosters moves, or just like yesterday following its athletes who appear on the television show “Dancing With The Stars”. The NFL is building up in power on social media because ESPN even has its own page dedicated to the NFL called “espnnfl” which also posts quite a bit daily and somewhat similar content to the NFL page. As for the team pages on Instagram fans are left with just sorting their news about the league to a specific team they want to hear about or follow. For Example the New York Jets post content only specific to their team. On St. Patrick’s Day you wont find the Jets posting a picture of an Eagles Player, they are going to keep to posting content about their team.
Players also on the social media app give fans some inside access on their favorite teams by being able to follow several of their favorite players. For example Thomas Davis of the Carolina Panthers posted a picture of his injured arm on instagram it was a very horrific picture to view but without the app fans would have never had the opportunity to see this. Von Miller player for the super bowl champion Denver Broncos has been keeping fans updated on social media by posting behind the scene videos as well as pictures of his “Dancing With the Stars” experience.
