Bill Simmons the journalist who is known for creating the website Grantland, is trying to get out of his contract with ESPN. Simmons was recently suspended when stating his opinion on his podcast "The B.S Report". On his show he stated his opinion which was "For Goodell to pretend he didn’t know about the Rice elevator video is such f****** bulls***.”
Simmons has been suspended since then and according to Michelle Castillo of AdWeek he is trying to get out of his contract and has the support of fans to do just that. A hash tag on twitter started last Thursday #freesimmons. People were tweeting it was his opinion on his own show he should be allowed to say what he wants. ESPN disagrees and has suspended him indefinitely.
Chad Finn of the Boston Globe (Simmons home town) stated in his headlines that Simmons "Gave ESPN No Choice". Finn brought up Simmons saying in the podcast "He dares his boss to suspend him". Finn continues by saying "You can’t dare the boss to punish you without getting punished by the boss."
Simmons played the tough card and it didn't pay off for him. He is still suspended today by ESPN and is still trying to get out of his contract, which pays him 3 million dollars a year according to Business Insider.
