Markus Persson the creator of gaming phenomenon Minecraft just sold his company to Microsoft for 2.5 billion dollars. The independent developer built this to be a simple developmental game, which turned out to sell millions of copies. Three years since it's release date and a release on multiple consoles it is now Microsoft property.
In a blog post of his own Persson states... “I don’t want to be a symbol, responsible for something huge that I don’t understand, that I don’t want to work on, that keeps coming back to me. I’m not an entrepreneur. I’m not a C.E.O. I’m a nerdy computer programmer who likes to have opinions on Twitter.” This is something he has never wanted; he admits he doesn't want the reasonability of this gaming giant. He insists that money had nothing to do with this sale, the main reason for selling the company was keeping his sanity.
Microsoft bought the gaming company that has sold over 100 million copies of the game. They didn't buy it just because of it's loyal fan base and it being available pretty much everywhere besides Microsoft products. They bought to be more appealing to younger people according to Dan Tyan of Yahoo Tech. He also states a good point in which they don't have to worry about Minecraft becoming a success because it is a very successful game.
We will see where Microsoft takes Minecraft and if it can make more money then the 2.5 billion they spent on it today. With this successful game with a loyal fan base and appeal to all ages, Microsoft only sees this game going up.
