GUESS Watches thinking about competing with new Apple watch or begging to not be put out of business?
CEO of GUESS Watches wrote a "welcome" letter to the CEO of Apple, Mr. Cook. GUESS Watches is a company that has been around since the early 80's. It has reigned over 30 years in the watch industry competing with original companies like Swatch, who has been around for almost as along. At the time they first started creating novelty timepieces, critics told them customers would not want a novelty timepiece only its real alternatives which were Swiss mechanicals or traditional quartz timepieces.
The Ceo talks about in this letter, the big talk of the future "wearables" and Apple's entre into this world. She claims they had spoke about this in the early 80's and claims she is a fan and she is proud of them for being an innovator.
In the letter the Ceo also speaks about her collaboration with MARTIAN an innovator from the previous generation that created LCD AND e- Link based smart watches. Some critics believe that she introduced this watch as a threat to new iwatch.
But this letter brings up just one little-huge question, is GUESS begging to be friends with Apple since their new iwatch may kick traditional novelty watches out the water? or is this letter written in order to let Apple know that Guess is also coming out with a smart watch so be aware? Its hard to assume the move and intention of a company that has been around for as along as GUESS has , but I guess we will have to wait and see the news and how the new smart watches will change the watch industry.
