Google has announced that it is a buying Lift Lab, a biotech company that has created a special spoon called Liftware. This spoon has been designed to help make it easier for people with Parkinson disease or essiental tremors to eat. The product also has multiple attachments which include fork, soup spoon, and key holder. For those who may not know Parkinson disease and essential tremors have many symptoms that make it very difficult for one to obtain necessary healthy eating habbits.
Some of these symptoms include tremors, which often causes limbness in ones hands or fingers, and also shaking of the hands. Parkinson disease can also cauase slow movement over time, rigid muscles, impared posture and balance, and loss of automatic movement.
Googles new product Liftware, vibrates to stabilize tremors, countering the movements of a patient's hand as he or she raises the spoon to the mouth. The technology is comparable to image stabilisation features in cameras that make up for shaky hands when taking a photo According to BBC "the spoon developed by Lift Labs is equipped with sensors that detect tremors and cancels them out by as much as 70%". A Google spokesperson said Lift Labs' "tremor-canceling" technology could "improve quality of life for millions of people." The company also said it is looking for new ways to use an "understanding and management" of neurodegenerative diseases.
