Protestors in China are going to have to find a new social media platform to post on. China banned Instagram as their pro-democracy protests continued through Sunday.
Instagram was one of very few social media sites allowed in China according to Michael Kan of PCWorld. It was respected by China because of its very strict rules, but as of Sunday the people of China were not allowed to post pictures.
Also on Sunday the police of Hong Kong dispensed tear gas against the protestors. Once the people of China started uploaded pictures to instagram of the victims of tear gas the site was banned. Also in July major messaging services such as "Line" were banned in China as well. China doesn't have to give an explanation on why they banned the social networking phenomenon.
In another article on ThinkProgress.com Lauren Williams shows some Instagram photos that were taken at the scenes of the tear gas incidents. The photos show the thousands of people protesting, It makes sense China banned Instagram because they don't want to show the powerful number of people protesting for democracy. Williams brings up how most of these protests are put together online and it is becoming harder to get the word out to people with the social media platform numbers becoming smaller.
Even with the Ban of Instagram the word is still getting out and the number of protestors are growing every hour in China. (The picture below shows protestors late Monday night.)
