In a recent article, written by Lucia Moss of the site, Adweek, photo and video sharers are more likely to be young and female due to the heavy usage of apps like Snapchat and Instagram. According to a new Pew Internet Project report, image-sharing has been on the rise within the past year, and consists of more than half of Internet users engaging in the posting of their own videos and photos online.
Snapchat, an app that automatically deletes images and videos after they’ve
been viewed is a popular app used by many and approximately 9 percent of
cell phone owners use it. 59 percent of photo and video sharers are
likely to be young and female, compared to the 50 percent of men. More than one-third
of Instagram users use it daily and one-fourth use it several times per day.
The Pew Research Center also found that 54 percent of US Internet users
now post original pictures or videos online, up from 46 percent last
year, according to an article by Straits Times. Compared to 42
percent of men, 53 percent of women share some of the content they
retrieved elsewhere. Smartphones have aided in the major boost in regards to the sharing of photos and videos.
