When searching on Google, “auto complete” service helps complete your search term. It will suggest other similar key terms while you are typing. Also it will show a “searching result” for suggestions on the term you searched and will say “ did you mean....”
The name suggestions and automatic suggested letters and words to complete a query are based on the company’s knowledge of the billions of searches performed across the world each day. If you enter the words “women should,” the number one suggestion is “women shoulder bags,” followed by “women should be seen and not heard.” If I type “men should” the site suggestion “men should be allowed to hit women” and “men shouldn't marry” pops up according to BBC.
Autocomplete can be biased and deficient in many ways.The mark of auto complete success is how little we notice it. The better the feature of auto complete works it fits our expectations and we fail to notice it but, it is noticeable when something doesn’t have this feature. For example, when you search “ white people stole my car” google suggested “ Did You Mean: black people stole my car.” A snap shot of googled suggestions traveled through the net exploiting the racist suggestion.
Google replied that hackers went into there system and did that, the company would usually replace white with black. How ever the more effort that’s expended making the results appear so smooth, the more plain and truthful the results feel to users.
Knowing what “everyone” thinks about any particular issue or question simply means typing the question and receiving the most relevant answer write itself ahead of your typing fingers.
Your language, location and timing are all major factors in results, as are measures of impact and engagement, Also your own browsing history and the “refresh” of any topic. In other words, what autocomplete feeds you is not the full picture, but what Google anticipates you want. It’s not about mere truth; it’s about “relevance.”
