Should an army be tweeting about a planned attack? Well that's what the Israeli Defense Force was doing. Before they attacked the Gaza Strip, they were tweeting about it. This should not be a way that the government communicates, it allows too many outsiders to be able to see too much information.
According to All Things Digital, "reports have also claimed that YouTube is suspending videos from the IDF's official channel, but one video that was "removed mistakenly" was reinstated by the site within hours." While the Israeli Defense Force should not be using social media to communicate about private matters or to be publicizing attacks, YouTube should not be getting involved, this is an issue within the Israeli Army. However, the IDF should not be using these sites for speaking of violence either.
According to the Washington Post, "the big irony here is that for all of the power of military, like the IDF, and for all the savvy of their social media campaigns, governments still just abide by the same terms and service as ordinary users." I agree that the social media should be only used for personal use and not to rely governmental issues however I don't know if I agree that it is the websites decision how people use their site.
