For the first time ever in Lebanon social media activists will recieve awards for their works at the Social Media Awards Beirut. The Social Media awards will allow the Lebanese online community to nominate, vote for and award bloggers, journalists, content creators, community managers, public relations personas, users of social media and celebrities for their efforts in communication and online creation. The online community is the power behind social media.
The aim is to empower the Lebanese online community to evaluate, select and award nominees according to certain categories.
The voting is done from April 1, 2013 to April 25, 2013 and their are 32 categories according to SMA Beirut.
Apparently, Lebanon is being nominated for "Best News Blog" this is quite an accomplishment. With competition like Nahrnet, one of Lebanon's most established news websites with a staff, advertising and big time political connections. This is a big achievement and honor.
In reponse to the nomination the blog quoted" Somehow this blog being nominated for blog of the year at the Social Media Awards became a mark of shame for some people ." No matter what the topic "Be it a shirt , political movement, a concert, a dialogue session or a simple conversation, people are allowed to differ in opinion and have their opinion heard even if others find it superb, unconvincing or unacceptable. "
So what is he trying to say is what was clear to me is that however the concept of freeedom of speech in Lebanon is relative. You get to enjoy its perks as long as you conform to what the vocal bunch expects you to write or say. So again Censorship lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
