Lebanon: China has become a major media giant throughout the decades. Although they have
had their problems with censorship in their own nation, they are trying to give back and work towards helping other nations. China has agreed, as of April 8th, to give back and help the nation of Lebanon with their media short comings and Lebanon is in great need of it.
China has had a spotty media history. Very recently however they have volunteered to help Lebanon in their recent media crisis. In the past few years ratings for a major and popular Lebanese public television station have plummeted. Tele-Liban, which once brought in many viewers has now become outdated. There had been many attempts to fix the station, which was the first
in the Middle East, but they all have failed. The station really boomed during pre-civil war Lebanon, but quickly lost popularity after. Many politicians worked to launch their our stations and Tele-Leiban soon fell because of this, accord to albawaba.com.
China has now stepped up to the plate though and offered to help fix its many problems. A delegate as well as director general at the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, Ma Li, had this to say about the situation,
"We hope this will be a very good starting point and in the future we are looking forward to more cooperation,”
China is working to do this to improve cultural understanding between the two nations. According to albawaba.com, Lebanon has also asked France and BBC to help revive the station. The two stations are counter parts to one another. China's actions to help Tele-Liban will not only reflect well on their good efforts, but also look good for their stations.
The government has a say over what news is put on the air, and Tele-Liban was once one of the leading stations. Hopefully, with China's help, it can go back to the top.Tele- Liban is state run and with China's help can become what it once was.
