During disasters celebrities use the media as a medium to motivate communities to help relief efforts. Celebrities all around the world have sang songs, and created videos in effort to raise money for the disasters that have happened around the world. Songs like "We are the world" were sung by different artists which was used to raise profits for relief efforts in Haiti.
In a statement, Jones said, "Twenty five years ago, the entertainment industry showed the power of community to help our fellow man when we recorded 'We Are The World' to bring relief to those suffering from famine in Ethiopia. And while the need to assist Africa continues, today the country of Haiti is suffering immeasurably from the destruction due to the recent earthquake and is in immediate need of relief that will last long after the television cameras have left. As artists, we have joined together on this 25th anniversary and in the spirit of 'We Are The World' to help meet that need." Read more
These videos are made with the ability to download for profit for the relief efforts. Using celebrities helps the relief because people are more likely to downlaod videos from the artists that they enjoy listening to and watching the most.
After Hurricane Sandy which happened in late October, in smaller efforts local singers did a similar thing to help the North Eastern region. Zach Jones and his friends pooled in their talents to help others heal through music.“I wanted to do something; I was kind of getting frustrated, not being able to help out,” he said. He used the media to get his music out there so that the downloads made profit to help out the red cross.
The media can help many causes in the end. "After all, music is therapeutic. Music can be an antidote, by lifting spirits and offering a brief escape, even if just for 3½ minutes, from difficult realities." IT is great to see celebrities even with their busy lives trying to help by using their talents.
