The article from the New York Times about the bills; SOPA and PIPA, or Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect Intellectual Property Act. The Sopa act is from the House and the Pipa is from the Senate. Both these bills are going to directly affect the media in multiply ways. First the media from online can be limited to the public, as shown with the protest from Google,Wikipedia and other online search engines.
"On Jan. 18, opponents mounted a Web-wide protest that included a 24-hour shutdown of the English-language Wikipedia. The step marked a political coming of age for a relatively young and disorganized industry that has largely steered clear of lobbying and other political games in Washington."
There is an argument over how much the bills will be able to limit searches and how much government can control the free speech and expression of the people who use the internet. The argument over whether to change the bills further or not is still ongoing. As you can see many people are afraid of what could happen.
I believe that this article shows us the dangers that internet media can sometimes have to multimedia by undermining the companies’ ability to be paid and their own ideas. Also I believe that this article shows us how we as people are able to speak out and show our voices, through all different types of media. With how much of an outcry we have against these bill, petitions are being made by the people. I think this is shows us just how much power we hold because the voting for these bill has been pushed back.
