The Social Media scene in India is growing. With only 60 percent of their 83 mllion users on social networks the potential to grow becomes even stronger. "The rising significance of social media in India is demonstrated by the fact that almost all the conventional media have registered their presence on the social networking websites".
The most popular sites are Googles Orkut and to no ones surprise Facebook, they make up 90 percent of all social media users. Facebook just recently took over as the number one social media site as India has one of the fastest growing markets and seem to love face book.
" Facebook “allows [Indians] to do two things they love: Tell everyone what they are doing; and stick their noses into other people’s business,” says Sree Sreenivasan."
India is a big market for social networking because it has over a billion people and its population is expected to overtake China some time this century. India also has a rising middle class, heavy computer usage, and freedom of speech. a lot of Indians also speak fluent english so the idea of using facebook is appealing to them. not only because they may know someone in the states but its always appealing to use whatever has he most popularity and thats what facebook has right now.
