The popular social network Orkut is slowly declining in it's popularity. Despite several attempts to increase Orkut popularity, include giving away free movie tickets, giving Orkut a make over, and giving Orkut a "like button." The "like button" is really popular on the social website Facebook, in fact according to a reporter from India " the new look is a cheap copy of Facebook." Orkut ranks ninth in India, six places lower than Facebook.
The decline in Google's social network in India could be caused by a couple of reasons. One being Orkut is declining because the social network is not "global enough." According to EFYTimes "Google had taken a regional approach with it, targeting only Brazilians and Indians, overlooking the fact that the web is all about being global." Many social networks are integrated with other popular networks, this is to promote each social network websites. Another reason the social website Orkut is declining because "the lack of support for Android." " The Orkut Android app was launched around a year ago, but it should have been there in Android to begin with." Google has launched many attempts in saving the social network Orkut fame but failed. Orkut is still declining on the popularity charts.
