Just like most areas we have toured through this semester, the television industry throughout Mexico is thriving. Television is almost as popular in Mexico as it is here on Long Island. According to Press-Reference.com in 1997, there were almost 30 million television sets owned receiving nearly 236 television stations. So what is one of the most popular things to watch on the TV in Mexico?
Well, Telenovela's are one of the most fun and entertaining things to watch on TV throughout Mexico. The telenovelas in Mexico are mostly traditional and can be broken down into seven "sub" categories. In Mexico, Televisa is the largest producer and exporter of telenovela's. Interestingly enough, the performers are typically caucasian, even though much of the population in Mexico is mestizo.
