According to one article some experts believe the Nigerian government does not have an enthusiastic view toward internet penetration and usage in the country. They believe if the Nigerian government continues with this attitude toward the internet and its benefits it will slowly bring down the pace of progress in Nigeria and the country will lag behind other developing countries. Lanre Ajayi, President of the Nigeria Internet Group claimed that the gap between developing and developed nations using internet access was increasing by the day. The chairman of the 1020 forum and president of the Internet Serivce Providers Association, Samuekl Adeleke, addressed, "We are not internet hungry. There is need for active participation both as a nation and as individuals to change the perception from the negative use of the internet to the positive."
The Action Congress condemned the "Welcome to Lagos" documentary which aired on BBC in the Unitred Kingdom on April 15, portraying Lagos as one giant slum. The Action Congress claimed, "The BBC - which trumpets its professionalism to high heavens - chose not to balance its story by also documenting the great efforts of the state government in the past 10 years to change the face of Lagos; it ignored world-acclaimed efforts by the state government to uplift the city." They feel the BBC is trying to portraye the people of Nigeria as incapable of managing their own affairs.
