Student Health Services is sponsoring Maxim Health Systems incorporated, to administer vaccines to staff and students. The vaccines offered are: Flu Shots $35, Pneumovax $40, and Meningitis $125. Payment is only accepted in exact cash amount or money order.

Vaccine day will take place on Wednesday, October 15th, from 1 until 5p.m., upstairs in the Student Union Conference Room A.

There is a buzz on campus. There is an energy and spirit that hasn't been felt in years. With the excitement of this year's election, it seems that everyone is motivated to get involved on campus and bring about change.

    There have been a 'million' voter registration drives but very few students say they have been closely following the elections. Instead, many are drawn to the personal lives of the candidates, creating a void in understanding the issues and what each candidate stands for. To help fix that,  NYPIRG, C.E.O, and the Pi Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. sought  to educate the students of SUNY Old Westbury. To get the students to understand the purpose of educating themselves before voting, they were separated into groups. The groups then created their own countries. After setting up their societies, they elected two candidates to run for office. It wasn't long before the students felt the direct impact  and wanted to learn more about the candidates. "I never really focused on the details on the election, this really helped," said Natasha Thomlinson.  Marly Fleurival also recognized the value of the event,  "I think its important to organizations to not only register students but include the education behind it."

The Student Life Committee addresses issues of concern to SUNY College at Old Westbury students. They would like to hear what students think about life on campus. They are interested in getting student input about a variety of issues such as dorm life, the shuttle bus service, the quality of the food, the kinds of social activities that are available on campus, and other areas of concern you may wish to express.

The SUNY College at Old Westbury hosted the 2008 Presidential Debate, sponsored by the American Studies Club on Thursday, September 25^th, 2008. Republican National Committee representative Grant M. Lally, and Democratic National Committee representative Mark X. Cronin played center stage in the Academic Village supporting, and defending, and educating the audience about our candidates Barack Obama, and John McCain.

In severe economic times, our overseas war effort, and a desire for change, the audience listened intently, and interacted with both representatives. Topics discussed included education, taxes, health care, war, and oil, were just a few of the many topics effecting today’s country, and this years election. Listen the great debate, learn where your candidates stand on the issues, decide for yourself, and don’t forget to vote.

PRESIDENT CALVIN BUTTS, 'TOWN HALL' ADDRESS 9-23-08

On Tuesday, September 23^rd, 2008, SUNY at Old Westbury College President Calvin O. Butts, III addressed the student body, faculty, and staff at the Town Hall meeting. The event was held in the Student Unions Rotunda, known today as the SUNY College at Old Westbury’s International Lounge.

A variety of topics were covered including the current state of affairs of our economy, and its impact on the university. President Butts also called upon our students to challenge themselves both in and out of the classroom, home and abroad. Our new academic building will break ground in March of 2009, supplying our campus community with state of the art facilities. These topics and more can be discovered by clicking the link above.

    More than 3-thousand students are enrolled at SUNY Old Westbury. Despite the widespread diversity on campus, there is one topic that seems to have widespread support – how professors handle a class cancelation.

          What can be done to prevent Professors from getting off track? Ghodra says, “they should e-mail us at least the night before class is cancelled.” Another suggestion made by Ghodra was, “if you want to cancel the class, maybe arrange another session during common hour.”

More than 700 green-gowned seniors graduated from Old Westbury on a beautiful spring day.  Registrar Patricia Smith, the chair of the 2008 commencement, reports that at least "3,000 family and friends joined to celebrate the graduating class of 2008 on the Meadow Terrace outside the Campus Center Sunday morning during the College's 42nd Commencement Ceremony."   

Catalyst Radio News produced a live web-cast of the proceedings for all of the friends and relatives who could not attend the ceremony. This is the third consecutive Commencement web-cast streamed live on Old Westbury Web Radio.
