On Thursday, February 24th, at the SUNY College at Old Westbury as part of Black History Month, the American Studies Department welcomed guest speaker Michele Duster. Michelle Duster is the great granddaughter of the famous journalist, civil rights activist, and suffragist Ida B. Wells.
Michelle offered a personal narrative of how the well-known investigative journalist Ida B. Wells became a crusader for change on the international stage. She discussed the increasing influence of media conglomerates on public discourse and opinions. Michelle Duster has written two books that include the writing of Ida B. Wells; "Ida In Her Own Words", and "Ida From Abroad".
